We have addressed this issue before but must now very seriously bring it back to your attention. The good news is, Brevard County Pharmacy Association is a large group with hard working leadership. The bad news is, some of the work is very time consuming. The task of mailing the monthly newsletter is a mountainous effort. BUT, more importantly we want the newsletter to be read by all members. We respectfully request you have your e-mail updated and do not hesitate to include a work e-mail (if the boss allows!). The newsletter will not continue to be sent U.S mail unless you contact one of the editors. Some members have been in contact with us, and we appreciate the response. If you have not received an e-mail edition, or if you want to continue regular mail editions please, please, please-contact us! In This Issue

Imagine
Imagine what the future of pharmacy may hold. You have heard the saying, “Two things are always constant, death and taxes”. In this day and age also, change is constant. Most of us find comfort in parts of our lives being exactly the same and we do not seek out the need to change those things. Why change what is not broken? But there are some things beyond our control. In pharmacy, some of those issues are insurance, pricing, technology, and illness. You can go about your job without thinking of those outside influences on your career or you can step back, take a look and decide how best to handle those changes. Change is way of challenging ourselves and making the job and the day-to-day activities better. Pharmacists and Technicians often feel overworked and
stressed in their jobs. We hear often there is a large demand in these fields.
Well not only do we hear this but so does big business and politicians. One
solution to this “problem” is to eliminate the high demand for pharmacist
and technicians. This can be done by automated counting machines and centrally
located professional consulting services. Big business recognizes this as away
to make money and lower the need for personnel. If this type of change is
successful then fewer pharmacist will be needed. Imagine there is no demand for pharmacist but a surplus of pharmacist
looking for jobs? How do you prevent this type of change from occurring? Two things can be done. One is to keep your ears and eyes open. Read your professional publications, you get a truck load every month. Continueing education is mandatory. Take credits that may teach you a new subject or specialize your skills. Secondly, GET INVOLVED! Congratulations to you, you are already a member of BCPA. Well get a collegue to join and then you also should join other associations (membership fees can all be tax deductible!) And once you are in these associations then let your voice be heard. Associations can influence political decisions and bring your best interests to the table. A few good pharmacists and technicians are always needed. Are you interested in your future? Do you think you have leadership abilities? Would you like to have a more active voice in what Brevard County Pharmacists and Technicians are accomplishing in this community? Well, what are you waiting for!?. Join the executive committee and see what you are missing.
